O V E R A C E N T U R Y : B U I L D I N G B E T T E R B A N K S - H E L P I N G N E W M E X I C O R E A L I Z E D R E A M S Fall • 2014 17 CENTURY BANK ACQUIRES VALLEY NATIONAL BANK Century Bank, headquartered in Santa Fe, and Valley National Bank of Espanola have announced that the banks have entered into an agreement for Century Bank to purchase certain assets (specified loans, investments and property) and assume all depos - its of Valley National Bank. The Boards of Century and Valley National unanimously ap - proved the agreement which is subject to regulatory approval and other customary conditions. The transaction is anticipated to close in the fourth quarter of 2014. Century Bank will have approximate - ly $730 million in assets after the transaction closes. “Century Bank is excited about the opportunity to serve the customers and staff of Valley National Bank”, stated Don Padgett, Century’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “This transaction, when completed, presents a great opportunity for Century to ex- pand our services into Espanola Valley. This combination will pro - vide Valley National Bank customers a broader product offering, increased lending limits and expanded branch office network that stretches from Espanola to Las Cruces.” BANK’34 Alamogordo Financial Corp., the parent company of BANK’34, Al - amogordo, on August 29 announced that it has completed its merg- er with Bank 1440, Phoenix, AZ. The merger agreement was initially announced in the summer of 2013 and amended earlier in 2014. Jill Gutierrez, President and Chief Executive Officer of Alamogor - do Financial Corp., said, “The foundation of this merger has been, and will continue to be, the commitment to create a strategic union based on complementary strengths. Business owner Shanan Campbell Wells has been in the art gal- lery industry for more than twenty years. Wells has been the own- er and operator of Sorrel Sky Gallery for thirteen years and has taken the lead in making it a well-known forerunner in the Four Corners art community. Sorrel Sky Gallery’s second location, located at 125 W. Palace Ave., Santa Fe, NewMexico, is a 5,989 square feet two-story space. Wells will retire after a 37-year banking career in NM. He joined LANB in 1985 as executive vice president, coming over from Bank of Los Alamos, where he was president. In 1994, Wells was pro- moted to president of LANB.
