If I am honored to be elected and serve the people of NewMexico again in the next Congress, I will contin- ue to reform financial system to benefit banks and consumers and pushmanymore itemsmy staff and I have beenworking on outside of the financial world. Question: How do you see the 2016 Presidential election im- pacting Congress? CongressmanPearce: I believe the American people aremore powerful than any one person in the White House. I think with this election, you are seeing a lot of anger coming through. Peo- ple are suffering and are frustrated. As a result, you will see more people coming forward and rejecting the status quo. Business as usual should not be the name of the game in Washington, and the American people are making that known. Question: As your responsibilities grow in Congress, how do you stay focused on the 2nd district? Congressman Pearce: My focus is always on the Second Dis- trict. First and foremost, I am elected to represent the people of southern New Mexico. It is a constant focus for me and my staff to ensure that our actions to improve our government, our econ- omy, our financial sector, will benefit New Mexico. I am honored and humbled to serve the people of NewMexico, and I fight daily to represent their interest and values. Question: What do you feel are your greatest accomplishments thus far in your career as a Congressman? Congressman Pearce: Certainly the overarching theme has been fighting against government overreach and burden on New Mexican families and businesses. While I have been fortunate to have a number of bills signed into law over my time in Congress, some of my proudest accomplishments are those that help an in- dividual business or family who was forced to turn to our office for assistance. I came to Congress to serve the people who elect me – the greatest successes are when I am able to act on their behalf to reduce government burden or aid in economic growth. Question: What can we do to jump-start the economy in New Mexico? Congressman Pearce: Move the government out of the way to create a conducive and inclusive environment for individuals to start businesses and for existing businesses to expand and hire more employees. This means ensuring the government doesn’t impose unnecessary burden on small business owners. The gov- ernment does not restrict banks’ ability to lend and support the communities they serve. It also means promoting reforms to our tax code to incentivize business and encourage innovation. I saw firsthand, and constantly hear of, the strain and difficulty of getting a small business off the ground due to government burden. This should never be the case and is something I am hugely engaged in reforming.
