My hope is that we will see a modera- tion in regulation for banks. Dodd Frank, while well-intended, has been very tough on community banks. This needs to be corrected so our community banks can get back to serving their local commu- nities. I also think we will continue to see a push toward digitalization and less branches as people migrate to the inter- net and online systems. What persons have had the greatest influence on your ca - reer? As mentioned previously, R.B. Holmes was a great leader for me. I was young and had a lot to learn and R.B. was al- ways very positive and encouraging. Jim Foley has always been a great friend and mentor. When you are around him, you cannot help but smile. Most recently, I worked for George Stanfield, who is the smartest banker I know. George proved to me that you can teach an old dog (me) new tricks. Do you have any advice for new bankers? The best advice I can give any new banker is show up every day and do a little more than expected. If you work hard and do a good job, you will be rewarded in the banking business. In our industry, a lot of people have started off at an entry level position. Through perseverance and qual- ity work, many have been able to rise to the top. It is a great business that can give you a career you will love and appreciate. Tell us about your family. I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Mary, for 37 years. We have two children, Heidi and Camer- on. Our oldest is Heidi Gorham, who has an awesome son named Ford with her husband Will. By the time you read this, Heidi will be close to delivering the next bundle of joy into our lives. Our youngest is Cameron Lowrimore, who shares two amazing children, Landon and Everly, with his wife Vanessa. My parents are Paul and Helen Stevens, they currently reside in Alamogordo. What are you interests outside of banking? My wife and I enjoy going on short trips within the United States. We cannot be gone too long because we miss our family too much. I am a cyclist and you can find me on the weekends riding all over Albu- querque. I am also an avid reader who enjoys reading a new book each week. What is your claim to fame? I am a New Mexico native who married way over his head. I got a lucky break from a local bank and took advantage of it. I was able to raise my kids in New Mexico and they continue to reside here. I am proud to have spent my entire work- ing life as a New Mexico banker and am grateful for the many blessings it has be- stowed upon me. n The Advisors’ Trust Company ® Zia Trust, Inc. 505.881.3338 www.ziatrust.com 6301 Indian School Rd.
