The Distinguished Alumnus Award recognizes individuals who have used their leadership skills to improve the quality of life for New Mexico. The recipient of this year’s Dis - tinguished Alumnus Award, Paul DiPaola, is New Mexico Regional President of U.S. Bank. Known for his passion and dedication to making New Mexico a better place to live and work, DiPaola has made a positive impact on the state through his position at U.S. Bank and through civic engagement on statewide and national levels. DiPaola has more than 35 years of banking experience and, under his leadership, U.S. Bank has returned to a top position in the New Mexico market. He is a current Board Member and past Chairman of the New Mexico Bankers Association and also serves on the Albuquerque Community Founda - tion’s Board of Trustees, and the State of New Mexico’s Job Training Incen - tive Program (JTIP) board, where he has been involved since 2006. Previ - ously, DiPaola has served as Chairman of Leadership New Mexico’s Board of Directors, President of the University of New Mexico Lobo Club, and Chair of the Rio Rancho Economic Devel - opment Corporation. DiPaola is also a member of the New Mexico Amigos. Since its founding in 1995, Leader - ship New Mexico has identified current and emerging leaders throughout New Mexico, enhances their leadership skills, and deepens their knowledge of the challenges and opportunities facing our state. The Core Program, Local Government Leadership Pro - gram and Connect New Mexico Pro - gram contribute to developing a larger understanding of these issues and ultimately prepare the leaders of today and tomorrow to meet these challenges with innovation and enthusiasm. Since Leadership New Mexico’s inception, nearly 1,600 participants from 85 communities across the state have explored the issues facing our state through participation in Leadership New Mexico programs. n STATE LEADER HONORED AT LEADERSHIP NEW MEXICO AWARDS DINNER
